Before you book

A patch test is required at least 24 to 48 hours before your first henna appointment. A small amount of paste is applied to the inner arm to check for any sensitivity. It is quick, free and essential for making sure your experience is a comfortable and safe one from the very first visit.

A small, carefully placed henna design applied to the finger, palm or wrist. Mini designs are precise and detailed in a small area, perfect for clients who want a touch of henna without the commitment of a larger piece. Simple in size but never in quality. Your therapist takes the same care with a mini design as they do with a full hand.
Who it's for
Great for first time henna clients who want to try it without going big, or for anyone who wants a subtle accent piece. Also popular as an add on alongside a larger design.
Benefits
Aftercare
Leave the henna paste on for at least 2 hours for the best colour result. The longer you leave it the darker and longer lasting the stain will be. Keep warm and avoid water on the design while the paste is on. Once removed, avoid washing the area for 24 hours.
A small to medium henna design placed on the hand or wrist, featuring delicate floral, mandala or geometric patterns. Simple designs have a clear visual impact while remaining understated and versatile. They work on their own or as a complement to a larger piece on the other hand.
Who it's for
Ideal for anyone who wants henna that looks beautiful but is not too overwhelming. Works well for everyday wear, events or as an introduction to larger henna design styles.
Benefits
Aftercare
Leave the paste on for a minimum of 2 hours, ideally 4 to 6 for a deeper stain. Avoid water for 24 hours after removal and apply a little coconut or olive oil to the design to seal the stain and extend its longevity.
A more detailed henna design covering the half hand or part of the forearm. Medium designs combine intricate patterns with flowing linework to create something that has genuine artistic presence without needing to cover the whole hand. The result is a decorative, eye catching piece that sits beautifully on the skin.
Who it's for
Perfect for those who want more coverage and detail than a simple design without committing to a full hand. Great for events, celebrations, holidays or anyone who wants a proper statement piece.
Benefits
Aftercare
Leave paste on for 4 to 6 hours or overnight for the best results. Avoid water on the design for 24 hours after removal. The stain will deepen over the first 24 to 48 hours as it oxidises. Apply coconut oil daily to extend the life of the design.
A full henna design covering the front or back of one hand up to the wrist. Full hand designs are bold, detailed and built to make an impression. Your therapist uses the natural shape and lines of your hand to guide the design so it flows with your features rather than just sitting on top of them. The result is something that genuinely feels personal and considered.
Who it's for
For clients who want maximum impact from a single hand. Popular for weddings, events, photoshoots, birthdays and festivals. Also for henna enthusiasts who simply love wearing a full set of henna as an expression of their personal style.
Benefits
Aftercare
Leave paste on for a minimum of 4 to 6 hours, overnight where possible. Avoid washing the hand for 24 hours after removal. The stain takes 48 hours to reach its full depth. Use coconut oil daily and avoid exfoliating the area to keep the design looking vivid for longer.
Matching or symmetrical henna designs applied to both hands in one appointment. Your therapist designs the patterns so they complement and mirror each other, creating a cohesive, balanced look across both hands. A proper commitment to the art of henna and an absolutely stunning result when done well.
Who it's for
The natural choice for brides, wedding guests, hen parties, Eid celebrations and anyone who wants the full henna experience. Also popular for photoshoots where both hands will be visible, or for clients who simply love wearing henna regularly.
Benefits
Aftercare
Leave paste on for 4 to 6 hours minimum. Avoid washing hands for 24 hours after removing the paste. Apply coconut oil twice daily and avoid exfoliants to preserve both designs equally. The stain peaks at 48 hours and typically lasts 1 to 3 weeks depending on skin type and aftercare.
A fully bespoke bridal henna appointment for brides, celebration occasions or anyone marking a significant moment. Your therapist works with you to create intricate, personalised designs applied to the hands and arms, incorporating elements that are meaningful to you. This is not an off the shelf design. It is a piece of wearable art created entirely around your vision, your style and your day.
Who it's for
Made for brides, those celebrating important milestones, or anyone who wants a truly bespoke, high detail henna experience. The three hour appointment allows the time and care needed to produce work that genuinely reflects the significance of the occasion.
Benefits
Aftercare
Leave the paste on for as long as possible, ideally overnight. Avoid water completely for 24 hours after removal. The stain will develop over 48 hours. Apply coconut oil morning and evening and avoid soap directly on the design. With good aftercare, bridal henna can last 2 to 3 weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions
Natural henna tattoos typically last one to three weeks depending on where on the body the design is applied, your skin type and how well you care for it afterwards. Areas like the palms and inner wrists tend to stain most deeply and last longest. Areas where skin is thinner or where you wash frequently, such as the back of the hands, may fade a little sooner. Following the aftercare advice provided at your Mali Beauty appointment will help your design last as long as possible.
Natural henna has been used safely on skin for thousands of years and is generally well tolerated by most people. At Mali Beauty in Eastbourne we use only pure natural henna with no chemical additives. We do not use black henna or any product containing PPD, which is the chemical responsible for the severe reactions sometimes associated with henna offered at market stalls or tourist venues. If you have known skin allergies or very sensitive skin, please mention this at the time of booking so Mali can advise you.
Yes, a patch test is required at least 24 to 48 hours before your first henna appointment. A small amount of paste is applied to the inner arm to check for any sensitivity. The patch test is free and takes around 10 minutes. Please book it in advance to avoid your main appointment needing to be rescheduled.
Leave the henna paste on the skin for as long as possible after your appointment, ideally four to eight hours or overnight. Do not wash the area with water while the paste is still applied. Once you remove the paste, avoid getting the area wet for the first 12 to 24 hours to allow the stain to develop fully. Moisturising with a natural oil such as coconut or olive oil can help the design last longer. Avoid exfoliating the area and minimise exposure to chlorine and prolonged soaking in water.
Traditional natural henna is generally considered safe during pregnancy as it only contacts the outer layer of the skin. However, as every pregnancy is different, we always recommend consulting your midwife or GP before booking any beauty treatment while pregnant. Please let us know at the time of booking and Mali will ensure everything is tailored to keep you as comfortable as possible at our Eastbourne studio.
