Are lash extensions worth it?
It's a question I get asked more than almost any other. Sometimes it comes from someone sitting in my chair for the first time, a little nervous, wondering if they've made the right decision. Sometimes it comes from a friend of a client who's been admiring their lashes for weeks and is finally thinking about taking the plunge.
So let me give you an honest answer. Not a salesy one. An actual honest one, from someone who has been doing this for over five years and genuinely cares whether lash extensions are the right choice for you.
What you're actually getting
Lash extensions are individual fibres applied to each of your natural lashes one by one. When they're done well, the result is fuller, longer, more defined lashes that look completely natural. No mascara. No lash curler. You just wake up looking like yourself, only a bit more polished.
A good set, properly applied, can last the full growth cycle of your natural lashes, typically around six to eight weeks with infills along the way. That's two months of rolling out of bed looking put together without any effort.
For a lot of women, that alone makes them worth every penny.
The honest upsides
Let me tell you what my clients tell me, because they say it better than I can.
The most common thing I hear is that lash extensions have simplified their whole morning routine. Mascara gone. Eye makeup dramatically reduced. Some clients tell me they barely touch their eye area at all now, which for anyone who's spent twenty minutes on a rushed morning trying to get winged liner straight, that's genuinely life changing.
The second thing I hear is confidence. It sounds small but it isn't. There's something about knowing your face looks good that carries through your whole day. Clients come in, we have a lovely hour or so together, and they leave looking and feeling brilliant. That doesn't get old, honestly.
And for anyone in Eastbourne heading to a wedding, a holiday, a big occasion, waking up on those days with your lashes already done is a very different experience to fumbling with falsies at seven in the morning.
The honest downsides
I said I'd be straight with you, so here it is.
Lash extensions are a commitment. They need infills every two to three weeks to stay looking their best. If you book a full set and then don't come back for infills, they'll grow out unevenly and start to look a bit sparse. That's not a flaw in the treatment, that's just how your natural lash cycle works. But it does mean budgeting for them properly, both time and money.
They also need a little care. Oil based products around the eye area can break down the adhesive. You'll need to be gentle when cleansing and avoid rubbing your eyes. For most people this becomes second nature very quickly, but it's worth knowing going in.
And they're not for everyone. If your natural lashes are very fine or damaged, we might need to have a conversation about what's realistic before we start. I'd always rather be upfront with you at the consultation than have you disappointed with the result.
So are they worth it?
For most people, genuinely yes. But the key word there is most. The women who get the most out of lash extensions are the ones who come in knowing what they want, commit to the aftercare, and keep up with their infills.
If you're someone who wants low maintenance beauty, values feeling polished without spending time on it every morning, and you're based in or around Eastbourne, then I'd say absolutely come and have a chat with me first. We'll talk through your natural lashes, your lifestyle, what you're hoping to achieve, and whether extensions are the right fit for you right now.
No pressure. No hard sell. Just a proper conversation.
My studio is inside Bodiology Sussex on South Street in Eastbourne, and I'd love to see you there.
